Despite falling numbers, the police are also taking a variety of measures against burglars this year. Compared to the previous year, daytime burglaries have fallen by around 45 percent (January to August). In addition to the police measures, the lockdown is also likely to have been responsible for the sharp decline. The fact that people were at home more often meant that there were fewer opportunities for burglars to commit crimes. The closed borders also prevented the arrival and departure of foreign burglary gangs.

For the Hochsauerlandkreis district police authority, fighting burglaries nevertheless remains a priority. Every burglary at home is a considerable shock for the burglary victims. Insecurities and fears can become a major burden after a break-in.

The experience of the police shows that you can protect yourself effectively against a burglary. Many Sauerland residents have already improved their burglary protection. If the police and citizens work together, burglars can be thwarted! Security-conscious behavior is the be-all and end-all of burglary protection. The campaign "Riegel vor! Safe is safer." campaign is therefore based on three important barriers against burglars:

• Get free advice from your police on burglary protection!
• Watch out for suspicious people and situations!
• Dial 110 in case of suspicion!

On 23, 24 and 26 October 2020, experts from the HSK criminal investigation department will be out and about again as part of the nationwide "Riegel vor! - Safe is safer" campaign

On Friday, 23 October, you can visit the prevention officers from 09:30 at the weekly market in Meschede.

On Saturday, 24 October, our experts will move on to the weekly market in Neheim. Together with our cooperation partners from the "Zuhause sicher e.V." network, we will be answering all questions about burglary protection from 08:00 a.m.

On Monday, 26 October, a special event will be held by the Arnsberg Consumer Advice Centre as an energy regulars' table at the adult education centre at Ehmsenstraße 7 in Arnsberg. At this event, the technical advisor of the HSK police will give a lecture from 7.30 pm followed by an informational discussion. This energy regulars' table of the Arnsberg consumer advice center is offered specifically on the topics of energy-efficient construction in combination with burglary-inhibiting measures in cooperation with the HSK police.
