On Monday, District Administrator Dr. Schneider and the Head of the Crime Directorate, Detective Superintendent Thomas Vogt, presented the police crime statistics for 2023.
The number of crimes in the Hochsauerland district fell last year (- 101 crimes / -0.78%). At the same time, the investigators did an outstanding job. The clearance rate has risen from 55.38% to 57%. District Administrator Dr. Schneider: "Increased figures in the crime statistics are rarely associated with anything positive. However, an increase in the crime clearance rate is definitely a positive development. Our investigators have done a good job and played their part in making the Hochsauerland district safer."
The number of domestic burglaries rose by over 36% last year (195 offences). Despite this, we are still far below the number of cases from 2015 and 2016.
The police across the state paid particular attention to the education and prevention of sexual offenses. In the Hochsauerland district, the increased police activity also led to an increase in the number of known offences (2022: 380 offences; 2023: 410 offences). Nevertheless, it must always be borne in mind that the number of actual crimes will be much higher.
At the end of the press conference, an investigator from the criminal investigation department reported on an outstanding investigative success achieved by the Hochsauerland district police department last year. She presented the EV Bigfoot to the journalists present.
